Roullete is a casino game played with a spinning wheel of numbers and various groupings of those numbers, whether they be red or black, odd or even, or high (19-36) or low (1-18). You can also choose to bet on specific numbers or groups of numbers. Bets are placed in a betting circle on the table and paid out when the ball lands in one of the numbers you have chosen to bet on.
The roulette wheel consists of a solid wooden disk, slightly convex in shape. Around its rim are metal separators, called frets by roulette croupiers. Thirty-six of these compartments are painted alternately in red and black; two are green and carry the sign 0 on European-style wheels, while on American roulette wheels, there are two green pockets marked 0 and 1.
The house edge on a standard European roulette wheel is 2.7%. This is much lower than the American version and the reason why we recommend novice players play this variant when they start out. The rules in this game differ from the American type, and include the en prison and la partage rules. La partage is basically the same as en prison except that half of the player’s stake remains on the table.
